THE TIDES
ZAGAT 2009 AWARD WINNER
Voted 2006 RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR by the Tourism Board - This restaurant is into its ninth season now and is run by Chef Guy Beasley -- it's excellent – we have been there for both lunch & dinner. The restaurant is set in a rustic coral structure that is set near water’s edge within a lush tropical garden. Seating on the patio is very romantic.
We just had a fabulous tasting menu there on our October 2008 visit. The restaurant just completed a new bar area and it’s gorgeous. We had a wonderful waitress, Juan, who anticipated our every need.
For our meal we had:
Local Lobster & Wild Mushroom Risotto
Kobe Sirloin Beef Peppered & seared rare
with oriental salsa
Panfried Bay Scallops on sweet potato
mash with mango and
orange beurre blanc
Lightly Peppered Roast Rack of Lamb
and ended with The Tides “Tidation” and Tart au Citron
In 2007 they just reopened prior to our visit and made a gorgeous new entrance with wonderful restrooms now located off the entrance area. The woman’s restroom now has 3 private areas and luxurious sinks. I’m told the same is true of the men’s restroom.
In 2007 we had drinks before the meal. For starters I had the Portobello & Paris Mushroom Soup finished with Fresh Cream & scented with White Truffle Oil and my husband had the Panfried Bay Scallops resting on Sweet Potato Mash with Mango & Orange Beurre Blanc. For our mains, I had Seared Local Tuna finished with a Wasabi Sauce served on a warm Ginger, Sesame and Egg Noodle Salad and a crisp Vegetable Spring Roll and my husband had Lightly spiced Mahi Mahi served resting on a bed of Salt Cod Potato Cake & Tomato Basil Fondue & finished with a Coriander and Prawn Salsa. Everything was delicious and the service was wonderful. Including a drink before our meal and a bottle of wine, our total came to $168 US.
Some previous menu items we have enjoyed this time included the starters of Thai Soup, Lobster mushroom risotto, Crab Cakes and mains of: Port Tenderloin, Lamb, Grilled Shrimp, Scallops -- delicious!.
Lunch may run $60-$70 US for 2 with a drink. Lunch items include starters of fish chowder, coconut shrimp, smoked salmon; all sorts of main course salads with chicken or various seafood; sandwiches like classic clubs, Philly steak or chicken breast, and various pastas and pizzas (vegetarian items also available). Dinner might run $150-$175/US/couple. Reservations for lunch and dinner are helpful. (At lunch many business people have “power lunches” there.)
I guess you can tell we like this restaurant.

October 2009 UPDATE:
Our first night on the island, The Tides was a must. And they did not disappoint. The service and friendly greetings are always the best. Our table was overlooking the sea (and the new west coast boardwalk). This did not hinder our enjoyment, and has helped a great deal preventing the sea water from creating problems in the restaurant.
Guy Beasley - owner/chef, was on hand to greet us this visit. He is so personable and is a fabulous chef. Of course, Mr. Sealy, the restaurant manager took good care of us. Guy’s wife, Tammie, was not there that particular evening, but sent her best wishes to us.

For starters we indulged is such delicious food as: Risotto - Local Lobster & Wild Mushroom Risotto finished with Fresh Parmesan, White Truffle Oil & Lobster Bisque; Panfried Bay Scallops - resting on Sweet Potato Mash with Mango & Orange Beurre Blanc; The Classical Tides Caesar Salad - Rolled in our homemade Dressing finished with Parmesan Cheese & Garlic Croutons.
Our mains were equally delicious: Supreme of Chicken - Panfried & served resting on a bed of Pesto, Chargrilled Vegetables, Garlic Scented Tagatelle & finished with a Grainy Mustard & Tomato & Basil Velouté; Sautéed Bay Scallops - Ginger & Sweet Chili scented stir fried Vegetables crowned with a Chargrilled Sushi Rice Cake & finished with a Soy & Coriander Reduction; and finally Fillet of Beef - Served with Sautéed Potatoes, Cepe Bordelaise Sauce & Plantain Fu Fu. Everything was cooked to perfection. The menu is so varied, it is hard to decide what to select - it’s all wonderful. For 3 of us with drinks we spent $90 US per person, but you can spend more or less depending upon what you select.
