Enjoy the freedom of exploring the island on your own - go where you want to when you want to. I highly recommend the following and would book as soon as you know your travel dates so that you won’t be disappointed (sometimes cars are all rented out if you wait until last minute:
STOUTES CARS:
We've used STOUTE'S since 1986 & always get good quality cars & wonderful service. They can deliver the car to you at your hotel or meet you at the airport if you prefer. Check out their site (click picture).
Tell them Lois Swanson recommended them (I usually talk with Ann Stoute via e-mail) (see box) and they should give you a nice discount.
They have an office right at the airport.
They have all sorts of vehicles -- mokes, jeeps, full range of sizes in cars and vans (that will seat 7 passengers plus the driver, Mokes can be rented for $265/wk. - Cars run about $275-$350/week depending upon size (with summer specials). If you do lots of sightseeing, gas might run $60 US for a week. Note: It’s a good idea to take the CDW offered as most US policies do not cover foreign travel. Even credit card coverage is difficult to collect in case an accident should occur.
Stoute’s clients are comprehensively insured as part of their rental rate, except for a deductible of $1,500 US in case of loss, accident or damage to the vehicles - regardless of fault. However, if you purchase their collision damage waiver (CDW) it will ELIMINATE the $1,500 deductible. The CDW costs $49.00 US per week or $10 US per day.

We tried a mini moke once, but you can get wet in them & there's no place to lock up any valuables, so now we go with a Corolla type car with a/c & that locks. They also have great Daihatsu Terios a/c Jeeps that are fun to drive. Definitely make arrangements in advance -- that way you won't be left waiting a day or so to get your car. Remember to drive on the left!
